Apply for a postgraduate course
All you need to know about applying for postgraduate study at York St John.
When you apply for a postgraduate course, you will apply directly to the University.
Making your application
You will find links to the application form on your chosen course page. To complete the forms you will need:
- Details of your qualifications.
- Your employment and work experience history, where it is relevant.
- A personal statement.
- Contact details for your referees.
- For some taught courses you may need to submit extra material such as a portfolio.
Once you have applied, our Admissions team will review your form. If we need any further details we will contact you by email.
The results of your application will be sent to you by email. This will include any conditions that we need you to meet as part of your offer. For example, we may invite you to an interview.
Depending on the course you apply for, you should get a response within 6 weeks. If you are concerned about the progress of your application, please contact our Admissions team.
Qualification certificates
We need certificates of your completed qualifications to make sure that you meet our entry requirements. For postgraduate taught degrees we will need your degree certificate and transcript.
If you are still in the process of completing any qualifications, you must provide a transcript of all completed modules and those you are yet to complete. Once you have completed your qualification we will need to receive a copy of your final certificate.
You must provide all of your certificates in colour. We can accept photocopies, scans and clear quality photos sent by email. You can also post your certificates, or bring them to campus for us to scan during working hours. You can find our reception on our campus map.
References
Most of our courses will need you to give us 1 academic reference. If you have been out of study for more than 3 years we can accept a thorough reference from an employer.
We are not able to accept references from friends or family.
Some of our courses require 2 references. These are as follows:
- All postgraduate teacher training courses
- Occupational Therapy (Pre-registration) MSc
- Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) MSc
- Contemporary Literature MA
- Contemporary Religion MA
- Counselling MA, PgDip
- Doctorate of Counselling Psychology DCounsPsy
- All research degree courses
If your course only requires 1 reference, please enter references@yorksj.ac.uk into the email address field for your second reference when you apply online.
