Information for needs assessors

The information below is designed to provide needs assessors with information about how we support students with disabilities at York St John.

Non-Medical Help (NMH) rates

Our Disability support and inclusion team facilitate external specialist support for students funded by Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs).

York St John University does not provide DSA funded NMH specialist support, in-house.

Other support and adjustments

Accommodation

We provide a range of student accommodation and can help students with a wide range of needs. Students can complete an Additional Requirements form when they apply for accommodation. Further information is on our Students with additional requirements page. 

Equipment contribution

Students are expected to contribute £200 towards the cost of equipment. 

Exam arrangements

Special exam arrangements can be organised by the Disability support and inclusion team. More information is on our Special arrangements for exams page.

Learning and teaching

Lecture capture is currently unavailable at York St John University. 

Library services

The Library has quiet study areas and bookable study spaces. Subject specific librarians can offer guidance on accessing resources. The Library also provides an Accessibility Support service. Students registered with the service have extended loan times and can request books in alternative formats. Further information is on our Supporting accessibility page. 

Software and assistive tech

Students have free access to Office 365 which is available on campus and remotely. Students have access to cloud based storage through One Drive for Business. Assistive technology software is available on the York St John network. We provide training on the use of assistive technology. Further information is on our Digital training and support pages.

Study support

Students can book tutorials with the Study Development team for help with academic work. We also have a range of self-help study resources available. More information is on our Library, digital and study skills page. 

Travel and parking

Blue badge holders are guaranteed a campus parking permit, free of charge. Students with medical conditions can apply for a parking permit. These are prioritised according to need. Further information is on our Car parking page.
