Autism Success

Transitions

We help you make the transition to university and provide support after graduation.

We know students identifying on the autistic spectrum may face additional barriers in their studies, particularly around transition.

Our transition programmes help you through times of change. Early Start gives you extra time to settle into university life at the start of the academic year. Graduation Transition supports you with the entering work or further study.

If you have any questions or would like any more information, please contact us at autismsuccesspathway@yorksj.ac.uk or tweet @AS_Success_YSJ.

Early Start

We have welcomed new students onto the Early Start programme since 2012. The Early Start programme is designed to be student focused and friendly. It aims to give you the best possible start at university.

Early Start runs the week before Welcome Week so you can familiarise and orientate yourself on campus. You can also move into your accommodation at a quieter time.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet other staff and students
  • Get your key questions answered
  • Attend workshops including study skills and IT sessions

Places on the Early Start programme are limited. If you would like to be considered for the programme, please get in touch with us at autismsuccesspathway@yorksj.ac.uk.

Get in touch by emailing autismsuccesspathway@yorksj.ac.uk.

The Early Start Programme is a place to meet people who not only understand you but who will remain your friends after the programme has ended. There are smaller group activities which are there to gradually introduce you to university life. For example, there are film nights, tours around campus, game nights, and during fresher's week, an earlier preview of the societies! The great thing about the Early Start Programme is that everyone, staff and programme member, are welcoming and understanding of each other. Additionally, you get to move into your accommodation earlier than most, which takes away the pressure of meeting everyone at once!
