Training for the Trainer
Improve the effectiveness of your laboratory teaching and training with this short course.
This 1 day workshop is for trainers and those involved in laboratory training. The course will cover theories of learning and styles, as well as training in planning, delivering and assessing. This is a course for people new to the training role or for those who want to refresh their skills and understanding.

Who is this course for?
Any Biomedical Scientists with training responsibility (Band 5 upwards) can attend. This course is suitable for first time attendees or as a refresher course for current trainers, including newly qualified training officers and more experienced practitioners.
What will I learn?
On this course you will learn to analyse learning styles and understand the updated IBMS training portfolio content. Examples of evidence that can be used will be directly useful for anyone with a training role in the lab.
How will my employer benefit?
Useful information covered in the course can be disseminated to colleagues in each Trust and each Pathology training laboratory.
Course leader biographies
Claire has been working at York St John University in an academic role since 2018, as module leader for microbiology and as placement coordinator. Claire works closely with the students from their arrival in first year to inform them of placement opportunities in both the NHS and industry. Working closely with NHS partners, students go through an application process of CV and covering letters and a panel interview to secure an NHS placement. Claire is the contact point for those involved in the training of students during their placement year.
Trudy Walker FIBMS CSci
Trudy is the Network Training Manager for Scarborough Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS). Trudy trained and specialised in Clinical Immunology at Hull Royal Infirmary and became a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist in 2003. In addition to her Biomedical Scientist role, Trudy was also the Immunology Training Officer, which included overseeing all departmental training and portfolio work. Trudy is also an IBMS portfolio verifier.
